This is one area where experience and expertise of the processor are two different things. Structural data sets have complex problems. They need careful examination of geometry problems, statics problems and the velocity complications. They need understanding of velocity variations, datuming issues and the time response to the depth models. The transformation of velocity fields between floating and flat datum is highly desirable. Horizons which are continuous in the depth domain may not be continuous in the time domain.
Considering the cost of drilling deep wells, better imaging and better understanding of the structure is highly desirable. Complex structure processing results in non-unique products. It is extremely difficult to duplicate processing results. The final product is highly influenced by choice of processing parameters, availabilty of special processing algorithms and the expertise of the person processing the data.
How do you minimize the risk because of non-uniqueness of final products? Processing by at least three structural data processing specialists is needed to minimize the risk of poor interpretation. It allows the interpreters to judge the consistency of information between products produced by different processors.. How many times did your processor wipe out the events associated with the outcrops?
How many times did your processor produce continuous horizons in time domain which are not supposed to be continuous in the time domain? Is your depth domain image accurate?
